Artist Statement

Loneliness and euphoria are dynamics I balance in my work. Fantasy is an important space that I cultivate in my paintings, using color schemes that heighten and shed light on the invented aspect. Crafting a separate space from reality strengthens analogies to the experiences and perceptions of life. Painting an imagined space allows me to notice and forge new relationships to my own dynamic reality. The escapist therapy of painting reveals itself as whimsical and sensual alienating forms and landscapes.

Previously living and working in Los Angeles, my proximity to the fashion district, rich with textiles, had encouraged my incorporation of a range of fabrics in addition to stretched canvas. I engage the physicality of heavy fabrics and address textiles as a subject in their own right by referencing femme and sometimes "gaudy" moments in fashion, painting riffs of these moments by "zooming in" on details and embellishments.

By metabolizing visually fascinating elements from dreams, nature, and (hu)man-made creations in my paintings, my practice pushes to establish new visual connections and relationships that may not abide by conventions of physicalist hierarchies.
